This course is built around the principle that material can be learned by information cycling of key parts of each logical unit. The user is expected to review the information presented as a supplemental to other presentations such as a class lecture or textbook.
Learning by repeated presentations of relevant information has two standard components, namely:
1. Definitions
In order to understand a concept, one must be familiar with all the terms used to describe the components of the concept.
2. Procedures
The method of mastering a concept is to understand the steps involved in solving the problem presented.
By presenting the definitions of a concept and the procedure, detailing the individual steps taken to reach a solution, the program is to reviewing vocabulary of the specific method and its solution example. Without the knowlegde of these two components of a mathematical problem, a method cannot be understood.
The student cannot simply learn from examples alone. Active involvement is necessary to master the skills needed to solve a mathematical system. The user is provided with a forum which shows the solutions of a system. By answering questions on the method, the system can learn about the ability of particular user. Appropriate actions are made to present the user the information in a manner that is optimal for the user. The following is a list of how the software of the proposed system can fuction to help a user uncderstand information presented. The dynamic part of learning has five standart units:
1. Procedural cycling-calculators
(e.g. matrix multiplication calculators)
2. Learning by testing
(test questions must be succesfully answered before proceeding to the unit)
3. Text cycling
(e.g. key-words cycling)
4. Figure cycling for a given object
(e.g. visualization of inequalities)
5. Mixture of the above components
Examples are implemented so that they can be cycled until the retention is achieved. Learning can be reinforced using examples in the test mode, i.e. the user must provide the correct answer.
